THE ROYAL SAINT LUCIA POLICE FORCE ENSURES THE SAFE MOVEMENT OF VEHICULAR TRAFFIC DURING CARNIVAL FESTIVITIES.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has announced the Traffic Management Plan that will be in effect to facilitate the Parade of the Bands on Carnival Monday and Tuesday.

The plan will ensure the safe movement of vehicular traffic on public roads during the festivities, and includes changes and restrictions to the usual flow of traffic in and around the city of Castries.

Inspector Calixtus Charlemagne details the routes.

“The prosed route for the parade will be from the Choc roundabout at Massy Mega, along the dual carriageway into the John Compton Highway, left unto Jn Baptiste Street, right unto Darling Road, right unto Jeremie Street, right unto the John Compton Highway, and return to Massy Mega.

“The following road closures will be in effect: the Castries to Gros-Islet Highway will be closed from the Corinth intersection at Marisule, Union Allen Bousquet Roundabout, Jeremie street intersecting with Bridge Street, Darling Road to Barnard Hill, and Chaussee Road intersecting with Jeremie Street. Diversions will be along the roads to indicate the routes to the city.”

"Within the City of Castries, some bus stands will be relocated. The Gros Islet bus stand will be relocated to George the Fifth Park; the Bexon and La Croix bus stands will be relocated to Bridge Street; and the Babonneau and La Clery bus stands will be relocated to Trinity Church Road. All other routes remain the same."

Head of the Traffic Department, ASP Curtis Roberts urges road users to be cautious, cooperative, and adhere to traffic signs.

“The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force urges all road users to be safe this Carnival season. We ask that you obey all traffic signs including temporary closures and diversions. Those who consume alcohol should designate a driver who remains sober at all times. Remember that there is likely to be an increase in both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Be patient and drive safely. We appeal to you to be mindful of your surroundings, take responsibility for your safety, stay within the designated areas and avoid obstructing vehicular traffic.”
