THE POLICE FORCE HAS COMMITTED TO IMPROVING ROAD SAFETY VIA MORE FREQUENT AND SUSTAINED VEHICULAR CHECK POINTS.

The Department of Road Safety and Traffic Investigations has launched investigations into 120 vehicular collisions, for the month of January 2025, inclusive of one fatal accident, along the Julian R Hunte Highway.

It is imperative that we issue an advisory to the motoring public whose actions continue to create dangerous and potentially fatal scenarios on our roadways. Reckless actions of a few, endanger the safety of many. Pedestrians also contribute to collisions, and are urged to exercise due diligence when navigating our roadways.

In some of the recorded cases, driver error is identified as the cause, in addition to mechanical failures due to poor maintenance. The exercise of due care and attention will prevent the senseless loss of life, damage to property and overall inconvenience to the general public.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is committed to enhancing road safety through increased law enforcement exercises, inclusive of more frequent and sustained vehicular check points. As a consequence, we implore all drivers to ensure the necessary documentation are available and up to date at all times.

Adhere strictly to the guidelines and regulations outlined in Saint Lucia’s road traffic legislation – maintain speed limits, exercise caution when overtaking, observe road signs and markings.

In doing so, we can reduce the likelihood of such incidents and foster safer conditions along our roadways.
