THE MINISTER FOR JUSTICE AND NATIONAL SECURITY HAS COMMITTED TO STRENGTHENING SECURITY MEASURES IN 2024.

At a recent press conference, Prime Minister and Minister for Justice and National Security, Hon. Philip J. Pierre, addressed a myriad of issues affecting the nation.

He highlighted the complex nature of the challenges faced and acknowledged the various facets contributing to crime. He also expressed deep concern over the country's homicide rates and emphasized the need for comprehensive measures to curb rising crime.

“The national security situation is one with many facets. The condition of the Bordelais Correctional Facility is under consideration and the level of homicides in this country is concerning. In the last half of 2023, the percentage in homicide rates decreased substantially when compared to the first half. These measures that we put in place will be strengthened this year. Hopefully we can continue that downward trend that we saw in the second half of 2023,” he said.

Acknowledging the collaborative efforts of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force and non-governmental organizations, Prime Minister Pierre expressed gratitude. He also highlighted the importance of physical infrastructure for law enforcement. The prime minister plans for significant upgrades. Government’s commitment to the renovation and improvement of police facilities reflects its dedication to providing law enforcement with the resources that are necessary for effective operations.
