MR. JN MARIE, WHO PASSED AWAY ON JULY 31, 2026, SERVED AS A SENATOR AND DEPUTY PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE FROM DECEMBER 2006 TO NOVEMBER 2011.

Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre joined Acting Governor General His Excellency Felix Finisterre and other state officials at the House of Parliament on Friday, October 9, 2026, to pay their final respects to the late Mr. Evaristus Jn Marie, former Senator and Deputy President of the Senate, during the lying-in-repose observance.

For Prime Minister Pierre, the occasion was also a personal farewell to a dear friend.

Mr. Jn Marie, who passed away on July 31, 2026, served as a Senator and Deputy President of the Senate from December 2006 to November 2011.

His contribution to Saint Lucia extended beyond Parliament into the financial and business sectors. He held several leadership positions, including Chairman of the National Insurance Corporation (NIC), Bank of Saint Lucia and East Caribbean Financial Holding Company (ECFH). He also served as Managing Director of Jn Marie & Sons Ltd.

The lying-in-repose observance formed part of the official arrangements to honour Mr. Jn Marie's life and contributions to public service and national development.

Mr. Evaristus Jn Marie was accorded an official funeral on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Castries.
