The Division of Older Persons has recognised George “Rogers” Thomas of Paix Bouche, Babonneau, who celebrated his 100th birthday on October 8, honouring a century of hard work, family devotion and service to Saint Lucia.
Born on October 8, 1926, Mr. Thomas grew up helping his father with farming and accompanying his mother to Castries Market to sell produce. He later became a taxi driver and trucker, saving enough to purchase his first truck, which he named Bound to Use.
Mr. Thomas contributed to the construction of the Soufriere–Vieux Fort road before returning to Castries, where he continued operating as a taxi driver while transporting goods by truck. His determination, discipline and strong work ethic became defining features of his life.
Beyond his work, Mr. Thomas has been a devoted husband and father of eight children, including an adopted child and a stepson. He has also supported his extended family and is blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Department of Equity, Social Justice, Gender and Older Persons, through its Centenarian Recognition Programme, celebrates Mr. Thomas not only for reaching this remarkable milestone but also for his enduring contributions to his family and community.
His life reflects the resilience and values of Saint Lucians and stands as an inspiration to younger generations.
