REGISTRATION NOW OPEN. FIRST COURSE BEGINS MAY 27.
The Government of Saint Lucia announces registration for the first in a series of sustainable finance training courses, developed under a Green Climate Fund Readiness Project. The initiative is being delivered by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in collaboration with a team of expert trainers. This first course, titled “"Fundamentals of Sustainable Finance & Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)," will be held in person from May 27 to June 24, 2025.
The certificate course will equip participants with the foundational knowledge, tools, and technical skills in climate change, sustainable finance and environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles. It marks the start of a two-year Sustainable Finance Training Program aimed at strengthening the capacity of key staff across public and private institutions, CBOs and NGOs to access climate finance and support a more climate-resilient Saint Lucia.
This national initiative is aligned with Saint Lucia’s climate resilience and sustainable development goals and reflects the Government’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity for climate finance.
The program is part of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Project, “Catalyzing Low Carbon Investment and Mobilizing Finance for Saint Lucia (CLIMB-SLU),” with technical and implementation support provided by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), under the direction of the Department of Economic Development, which leads the initiative on behalf of the Government of Saint Lucia. Tailored to Saint Lucia’s needs, the full program will cover topics like environmental and social safeguards, sustainable finance tools, and climate project development, using local case studies to reinforce key concepts.
The initiative has gained enthusiastic support from leaders across the public and private sectors who highlight the importance of training staff in sustainable finance as an essential step toward achieving Saint Lucia’s development priorities.
“This sustainable finance training program directly addresses the capacity gaps identified within the public service,” said Imran Williams, Director of Finance. “It will provide our officers with the essential tools and knowledge to mobilize climate finance and integrate climate considerations into our work. This initiative is a crucial investment in our institutions, our resilience, and our ability to create a more sustainable future for Saint Lucia.”
