DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA (TAIWAN) HAVE BEEN MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL.

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet along with a delegation visited Taiwan earlier this month to join in the country’s national day celebrations. Meanwhile, Governor General Sir Emmanuel Cenac and Mrs Cenac, Mrs. Raquel DuBoulay Chastanet, Hon. Andy Daniel as well cabinet colleagues and the diplomatic corps celebrated at home.

Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Ezechiel Joseph, said the decision to establish relations with the Republic of China (Taiwan) some 40 years ago continues to bear tremendous fruit. He highlighted the accomplishments in agriculture where farmers are revitalizing the banana industry. Technical support led by the Taiwanese is also promising.

The Saint Lucian contingent included Ronald “Boo” Hinkson, five members of the band, and technical personnel. The delegation participated in the Taichung Jazz Festival and Taichung Instruments Festival.

Taiwan’s 108th National Day Celebrations took place on Oct. 10.
