Saint Lucia participates in 58th annual review of Canada-Caribbean Seasonal Agricultural Workers Programme

THE MEETING PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO EVALUATE THE PROGRAMME'S PERFORMANCE.

A delegation from Saint Lucia, including the Permanent Secretary and Senior Employment Officer from the Department of Labour, attended the 58th Annual Review Meeting of the Canada-Caribbean Seasonal Agricultural Workers Programme (SAWP). The meeting was held in Barbados from November 12-15, 2024.

The gathering provided an opportunity to evaluate the programme's performance, efficiency, and outcomes over the past year. Discussions also focused on proposals to enhance the terms and conditions of employment for farm workers.

The Government of Saint Lucia reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the programme achieves its intended objectives and continues to provide meaningful employment opportunities for Saint Lucians.

In addition to Saint Lucia, the meeting saw participation from representatives of Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, the Government of Canada, and farm owners involved in the programme.
