THE FEMALE PARLIAMENTARIANS WIL DELIBERATE ON THE STRUCTURE, MANAGEMENT AND OBJECTIVES OF THE CAUCUS, THIS FRIDAY.
The Parliament of Saint Lucia will be hosting past and present female Parliamentarians for a special meeting and luncheon to formalize the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus which was initiated on December 29, 2021.
The meeting which is scheduled for Friday, December 8 at 9:30 a.m. in the Parliament Chamber will coincide with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence (Nov. 25 to Dec. 10) and will culminate with a special luncheon in the Members’ Lounge.
The women parliamentarians will deliberate on the structure, management and objectives of the caucus which can include :
- Promoting solidarity among women in general and among women parliamentarians in particular;
- Enhancing the capacity of women parliamentarians as effective legislators and representatives;
- Lobbing for support from non-governmental and inter-governmental organisations;
- Providing a forum for discussion on matters affecting women in the country, regionally and internationally across party lines;
- Networking with other organizations and institutions, concerned with issues pertaining to women and women’s participation in the political process.
One of the outcomes of the meeting is to establish a steering committee or interim executive to manage the business of the caucus in the coming months.
