The Grande Rivière Digital Development Centre opened on May 16, marking a transformative step toward technology access and digital literacy in the community.

The newly-unveiled centre is poised to become a hub for innovation, digital education, and skills development in the Mabouya Valley and wider Dennery basin. The facility features a fully-equipped computer lab with 20 desktop computers, a smart board, and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) functionality, all aimed at creating a modern, flexible environment for both learning and professional training.

In the feature address, the Minister for Education and Parliamentary Representative for Dennery, north constituency, Hon. Shawn Edward, emphasized the impact of such investments.

“Community development is more than concrete and steel structures. A digital centre such as this one in Mabouya Valley must be appreciated for the potential it harbours and the opportunities it avails to the residents of the community," he said.

The establishment of the Grande Rivière Digital Development Centre aligns with Saint Lucia’s national goals to close the digital divide and promote inclusive access to technology and information particularly in underserved rural communities.

Her Excellency Nicole Su, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint Lucia, reaffirmed her government’s commitment to supporting Saint Lucia’s digital advancement.

“I am excited about the impact of this project. Grande Rivière has taken a meaningful step toward achieving digital equity, and Taiwan is proud to be a partner in this transformative journey," she said. "This marks the second Digital Development Centre—following the launch of another facility in Laborie last year—and it further reflects our unwavering dedication to bridging the digital divide across communities throughout Saint Lucia.”

Ambassador Su’s statement underscored the shared vision between Taiwan and Saint Lucia in leveraging technology to empower communities while ensuring inclusive access to digital tools and resources.

The centre is expected to offer a variety of programs in digital literacy, career development, and youth innovation, with the long-term vision of fostering a tech-savvy and empowered community.
