AS PART OF THE NATIONAL DAY OF CARING OBSERVANCE, JUNE 6 HAS BEEN DECLARED COMMUNITY OUTREACH DAY.
As the clock ticks towards the staging of the second annual National Day of Caring on June 7, 2024, students of the Upton Gardens Girls Centre, one of the satellite agencies under the auspices of the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice and Empowerment, will demonstrate that they care, when they undertake their regular community service at the Francis & Adelaide Home on June 6, 2024.
As part of the National Day of Caring observance, June 6 has been declared Community Outreach Day. The students will present the Home residents with bouquets and ice cream, do manicures, and spend time fixing puzzles as brain-stimulating and dexterity activities.
Director of the Upton Gardens Girls Centre Jacqueline Massiah-Simeon says the activity is a harbinger to the June 7th observation and will give the Centre girls a perfect opportunity to display caring in action.
“This is the perfect opportunity for our girls to exhibit caring qualities by showing goodwill to the senior citizens. Along with our academic and technical vocational curriculum, qualities such as kindness, compassion, and consideration for others are nurtured at the Centre daily. National Day of Caring affords us the perfect opportunity to demonstrate such traits,” noted Messiah-Simeon.
The activity runs from 10: 00 a.m. to 12: 00 noon on June 6, 2024
Alongside the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice and Empowerment several public and private sector stakeholders are joining communities groups throughout Saint Lucia, in hosting various activities on June 6 as part of Community Outreach Day. Among them are Gros Islet, Monchy, Castries North, South and Central, Dennery and Vieux Fort.
National Day of Caring takes place on June 7, 2024 with the main activity being a fair at Constitution Park, dedicated to caring.
