Vieux Fort Water Supply Redevelopment Project Receives Funding

THE EXPECTED OUTCOME IS A RELIABLE, CLIMATE RESILIENT SUPPLY OF POTABLE WATER FOR VIEUX FORT AND ENVIRONS.

Financial assistance for the completion of the sixth Vieux Fort Water Supply Redevelopment Project, through a Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) loan has been approved by the Parliament of Saint Lucia. The Caribbean Development Bank has made an additional US$7,378,000 dollars available for the venture.
This consists of an amount of US$4,178,000 from its Equity and Market resources and US$3,200,000 that the CDB allocated from the European Investment Bank under the Climate Change Action Line of Credit.

Speaking to the components of the second phase of the project, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Physical Planning, Natural Resources and Co-operatives, Hon. Ezechiel Joseph, said rehabilitation works will be undertaken on the raw treatment line at Beausejour, the construction of a new water treatment plant at Beausejour with a capacity of 8640 cubic metres; the construction of a new chemical storage building at Beausejour; the installation of approximately 8.7 kilometres of HDP ( a new pipeline ); and a DI Transmission main from the Beausejour  water treatment plant to Beanfield and La Tourney.
Minister Joseph said the project is not limited to the Vieux Fort North area as it encompasses communities in Vieux Fort South and Laborie.

The proposed project includes infrastructure works comprising two river intake structures, three new pumping stations, fifteen kilometres of new high-density polyethylene transmission mains, and three new storage reservoirs.
The Vieux Fort Non-Revenue Water Reduction Programme and Capacity building of WASCO comprises: technical Assistance to conduct an energy audit of WASCO facilities, a water audit for the Vieux Fort Water Supply System, preparation of the Vieux Fort Watershed Management Plan, Project Management, Monitoring and Engineering Services.

The expected outcome of the project is an efficient, reliable, climate resilient and sustainable supply of potable water to all of the residents and businesses of Vieux Fort and its environs.
