New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships 2020
The Department of Education, Innovation and Gender Relations informs of the call for applicants for the New Zealand (NZ) Commonwealth Scholarships 2020 to suitably qualified Saint Lucians.
The NZ Commonwealth Scholarships are prestigious scholarships for people from developing countries to study in New Zealand. The scholarships are intended to foster and build potential leaders, as well as equipping individuals with skills and knowledge to benefit their home country.
NZ Commonwealth Scholarships are available for the following levels of study:
- Master’s Degree (1 – 2 years).
- Ph.D. (Up to 3.5 years)
Area of study must directly align with the relevant sectors listed below:
- Climate Change and the Environment
- Food Security and Agriculture
- Renewable Energy
- Disaster Risk Management
- Good Governance
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for selection an applicant must:
- be a citizen of Saint Lucia residing in Saint Lucia for at least two (2) years prior to application;
- be at least eighteen (18) years and not more than thirty-nine (39) years old before the start of the scholarship;
- demonstrate how the study to be undertaken will enable you to contribute to the sustainable development of your country;
- by March 31st, 2020, would have completed at least twelve (12) months (or 24 months part-time) work experience relevant to the scholarship study applied for;
- select an area of study listed on the “Government of Saint Lucia List of Priority Areas for National Training”, which can be accessed on the Government of Saint Lucia website;
- be in good physical and mental health to complete the programme successfully;
- possess the language competency to undertake studies in the language of the institution or country of study; and
- agree in writing to return to Saint Lucia following completion of the scholarship and contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.
How to Apply
In addition to the Government of Saint Lucia Scholarship Application Form, all applicants must complete and submit the requisite New Zealand Scholarship Application Form to the HRD Unit. The form can be accessed from the link shown below:

Interested persons are invited to collect the Government of Saint Lucia Scholarship application form from the Human Resource Development (HRD) Unit of the Department of Education, Innovation and Gender Relations, 4th Floor, Francis Compton Building, The Waterfront, Castries. This form can also be accessed on the Government of Saint Lucia website: http://www.govt.lc/forms/scholarship-application-form. Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.
