Applications are invited for the 2016 Young Professionals Programme (YPP) Examination, from nationals of Saint Lucia or any other country participating in the recruitment exercise – the list of participating countries is published annually and varies year to year.

The YPP is a recruitment initiative for talented, highly qualified professionals to start a career as an international civil servant with the United Nations Secretariat. Once applications are submitted, convoked candidates will sit an entrance examination.  Candidates chosen based on exam results will then be call to an oral interview.  Final selections will be made based on interview results

 

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  1. hold the nationality of a participating country at the time of application;
  2. hold at least a first-level university degree relevant to the discipline in which they would like to take the examination;
  3. be thirty two (32) years of age or younger on December 31, 2016; and
  4. have fluency in either English or French.

 

The Examination

The examination tests your substantive knowledge, analytical thinking, drafting abilities as well as your awareness of international affairs.

The examination is free, however, examinees pay their travel to the examination centre. (Saint Lucia’s Examination Centre – To Be Announced).

Examination Date:  December 14, 2016

First Stage (at Exam Centre)

  • General Paper – Summary exercise, written in either English or French
  • Specialized Paper – Multiple choice items and constructed response items in the substantive area (job family knowledge), to be answered in any of the UN official languages
  • The overall time for the written examination is 4.5 hours plus 1-2 hours before/after exam

 

Second Stage (for only those successful on the written test)

  • Oral Examination – Competency-based interview, via video conferencing

 

Value of Exam

  1. Successful candidates will be eligible for consideration for positions at the P-1 or P-2 level in any Secretariat duty station or peacekeeping operation.
