Legal Counsel
The National Insurance Corporation is seeking to fill the post of Legal Counsel to complement our Legal Team.
Summary of Duties
To provide legal services to the Corporation and its subsidiaries.
The successful candidate will report to the Senior Legal Counsel. Duties and tasks will include inter alia:
- Prosecution of debt collection, compliance and enforcement matters at the High Court and Magistrate’s Courts.
- Interpretation and revision of the legislation which governs the Corporation.
- Drafting and vetting of contracts, notarial documents, agreements and other legal
documents and generally providing legal support to the various departments of
the Corporation and its subsidiaries
- Conducting legal research.
- Providing corporate secretarial support in the absence of the Corporate Secretary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Sound knowledge of the National Insurance Corporation Act and Regulations, Labour Act, Companies Act and Land Registration Act.
- Sound knowledge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Civil Procedure Rules and the Civil Code.
- Legal drafting, negotiating, supervisory, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Self-motivated and proven ability to work well as part of a team.
- Ability to manage time, meet deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to exercise initiative and judgement in the execution of duties
Qualification and Experience
- At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and a Legal Education Certificate or equivalent.
- Admission to the St Lucian Bar.
- Must possess a valid Practicing Certificate.
- At least four (4) years experience as a practicing Attorney at Law (in civil litigation will be an asset).
