VACANCY NOTICE

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for employment in the post of STAFF NURSE III at the Millennium Heights Medical Complex.

A.    OBJECTIVE AND RELATIONSHIP

  1. Provides administrative support to Nurse Managers in ensuring delivery of quality client-focused care to the client, their family and carers, utilizing a holistic approach as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team.  Required to provide highly responsive and flexible service to consumers and carers, while upholding a high level of professionalism.

 

  1. Ensures that his or her nursing practice and conduct meets the standards of professional and ethical practice, and relevant legislated requirements.

 

  1. Works under the direction of and reports to the Ward Manager or Departmental Manager.

 

B.     MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assists in the effective daily supervision of staff on the Unit through the effective identification of staffing needs, development of shift schedules and performance evaluation of subordinate staff.

 

  1. Ensures the effective delivery of planned nursing care in accordance with the standards of professional, ethical and relevant legislated requirements in order to achieve identified outcomes.

 

  1. Ensures that admission and discharge processes are followed in accordance with organizational policy.

 

  1. Monitors the condition of patients whose medical condition is unstable or potentially unstable and informs the Ward Manager of any necessary interventions.

 

  1. Ensure work practices comply with Infection Control policies and protocols.

 

  1. Provides coaching and counselling, as well as training and education of subordinate nursing staff, including the scheduling of orientation and educational programs for new nurses.

 

  1. Assists Ward Managers in identifying training needs to ensure optimal performance is maintained.

 

  1. Assist in the coordinating of preceptorships for student nurses.

 

  1. Coordinates and leads regular staff educational sessions.

 

  1. Conducts staff meetings, under the supervision of a Ward Manager
  2. Undertakes a comprehensive and accurate nursing assessment of clients utilizing an effective, professional, safe and holistic approach.

 

  1. Ensures that all administration and documentation requirements are initiated and completed in a professional and timely manner, through the use of established organizational processes.

 

  1. Directs, monitors and evaluates nursing care provided by Staff Nurses II and I Nursing Assistants, Health Aides and Student Nurses, including orientation of new staff according to established processes.

 

  1. Ability to delegate work according to roles and competencies of staff.

 

  1. Liaises with all members of the health care team with regard to patient care.

 

  1. Resolves any workplace conflict in a professional manner and through correct organizational processes.

 

  1. Contributes to committees and attend staff meetings as required.

 

  1. Ensures the monitoring, procurement and proper inventory of supplies to ensure adequate supplies are available at all times.

 

  1. Assists in the proper maintenance of equipment.

 

  1. Provides health education appropriate to the needs of the client within a nursing framework.

 

  1. Ensures that quality services are delivered to both internal and external clients through continuous improvement activities.

 

  1. Exercises appropriate safety measures to protect his or herself in the event of unexpected client responses, confrontations, personal threat or other crisis situations.

 

C.    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and application of relevant nursing skills including knowledge and understanding of appropriate equipment, legislation, policies and procedures.

 

  1. Ability to lead and develop a diverse team or participate as an active member of a team, consistent with the philosophy and policies of the organization.

 

  1. Ability to demonstrate safety protocols with regard to unexpected client responses, confrontation, personal threat or other crisis situations.

 

  1. Working knowledge of fire and evacuation and other emergency management policies and procedures.

 

  1. Working knowledge of computers and computer applications.

 

  1. Ability to exercise initiative, tact and good judgement particularly as it relates to safeguarding of confidential information.

 

  1. Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with a wide range of internal and external clients.

 

 

  1. Advanced ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of internal and external clients.

 

  1.  Advanced organizational and time management skills, in particular ability to prioritize workload.

 

10.Ability to uphold high levels of professionalism and confidentiality.

D.    ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Certificate/Associate Degree/Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.

 

  1. Must be a Registered Nurse with the General Nursing Council PLUS at least 7 years’ nursing experience/Associate Degree/Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.

  1. Demonstrated compliance and application of Hospital Policies and Regulations, Departmental Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.

 

  1. Demonstrated application of job knowledge and/or technical expertise relevant to the job.
