Due to the relatively small size of the weather system, it is unlikely that Saint Lucia will experience adverse weather during the weekend.

According to the National Hurricane Center, as of 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, Hurricane Danny has weakened to a tropical storm.

Reports indicate that Danny has weakened below hurricane strength, with maximum sustained winds estimated at 65 mph, with higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast over the next 48 hours.

Danny is moving toward the west near 14 mph. This general motion is expected to continue through Monday. The center of Danny is expected to be near the Leeward Islands by Sunday

night or Monday morning. The storm system is expected to produce 2 to 4 inches of rain over the Leeward Islands through Monday.

The Saint Lucia Meteorological Office stated Friday, that due to the relatively small size of the cyclone it is unlikely that Saint Lucia will experience adverse weather during the weekend.

“As the system draws nearer, seas will be closely monitored for any increase in above normal waves. The Saint Lucia Meteorological Office will continue to monitor the system as it draws nearer, but there is consensus that hurricane and storm watches and warnings will not be needed, due to the distance of Danny from Saint Lucia,” a press release stated.

Tropical Storm Danny is expected to pass north of Saint Lucia in the vicinity of the Leeward Islands. A tropical storm watch is in effect for Antigua and Barbuda; Saba and St. Eustatius; Saint Kitts and Nevis; Anguilla, Montserrat, Saint Maarten, Guadeloupe, and Saint Barthelemy.
