The motions were approved at the House of Assembly on Tuesday.

Two motions were approved at the sitting of the House of Assembly on Tuesday.

Parliament approved a loan guarantee of EC$15 million to finance the Urban and Community Roads Project, and also authorized a loan of US$19,675,000 to improve the water supply and distribution of water to the people of the south.

Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony explained the necessity for the water project.

"Honorable members know that for years the people of the south, like the people of Dennery, have had severe problems accessing water. One of the causes is the lessening of the pace of the Vieux Fort river that originates way up in the mountains of Vieux Fort north."

He said that the loan provisions were attractive.

“The loan consists of a Special Funds Resource (SFR) portion of US$6 million and an ordinary capital resources portion of US$13, 675,000."

The Government of Saint Lucia also recently signed an agreement with the Federal Republic of Mexico and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) for a water supply project for Dennery North at a cost of US$5 million. The project encompasses water intake construction and raw water transmission, water treatment plant construction and commissioning, the installation of storage tanks for treated water, the installation of pumping facilities and network distribution upgrades.
