THE ANNUAL CAMPAIGN ENCOURAGES THE ADOPTION OF HEALTHY HABITS.
The month of October is observed globally as a period to promote breast health and raise the platform of breast cancer prevention. This annual campaign aims to raise awareness and encouraging the adoption of healthy habits.
In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs is embarking on the following activities to raise awareness and show their support.
- Pink Fridays: In an effort to generate visibility and be a champion for the cause of breast cancer prevention, work places are invited to decorate work stations or main entrances in pink. Also, staff members and other people in various communities around the island are encouraged to wear pink on Fridays to show support for breast cancer survivors.
- Community Outreach: All Community Wellness Centres are encouraged to dedicate one day of screening to community members. They are also encouraged to decorate and showcase a display table at the Wellness Centre throughout the month of October.
- Educational Sessions/ Breast Screening/ Health Fairs for staff at various workplaces. Social Media Challenge: We are calling on business places and the community to join the social media challenge by making a social media post of one healthy habit to be adopted in October. Individuals are encouraged to use the hashtag #WholeYou2025 #PinkPower
- Breast Health Education Sessions at Schools: The Education and Communications Unit and Community Nursing Service within the Ministry of Health will be conducting breast health education sessions for girls at Secondary Schools. The educational sessions will be focused on enhancing the knowledge of students on the importance of knowing their breasts, identifying changes in their breasts, conducting breast self-examinations and the importance of caring for their breasts. The theme for this activity is Embrace Your Whole Self: “Check Your Lemons.” Tag Line: Be Aware (Your breast or Chest) Take Care (Do regular screening) Share (Your Story) Check, Detect, Protect.
- Community screening activity: The Micoud Wellness Centre will be hosting a 5K in “Pink Walk” for breast cancer within the community of Micoud which will culminate with a screening activity at the Wellness Centre. This activity is to promote and encourage physical activity, show solidarity with survivors, fighters and those who lost loved ones to breast cancer. This year, special focus will be placed on members of the various communities; Mon Repos, Desruisseaux, Ti Rocher and Micoud.
The Ministry of Health encourages the public and all corporate partners to participate in breast cancer activities during the month of October. Your participation in this campaign is vital as we work together to raise awareness and support those affected by breast cancer.
