A solar photovoltaic system will allow NEMO to maintain its operations in the event of power outages.
The National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) last week launched a solar photovoltaic (PV) system which allows NEMO headquarters to generate electricity from a renewable source, thus equipping the agency to maintain its operations in the event of power outages.
The Government of Saint Lucia through the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology has installed a twenty-five kilowatt (25 kW) system at NEMO.
The government remains consistent in its mandate to promote the use of renewable energy and increasing energy efficiency in Saint Lucia, and because the use of photovoltaic (PV) technology is increasing in Saint Lucia, the time is opportune for great dissemination of the technology particularly on public buildings.
NEMO's new PV system was funded by the Republic of China/Taiwan under the Sustainable Energy from Concept to Action Project, as part of the Solar Initiative Component.
The official commissioning and launching of the Solar PV System at NEMO was held on Feb. 26.
