Response to Misinformation Regarding Inland Revenue Department Closures

by Inland Revenue Department
The temporary closure of specific Inland Revenue Department offices was solely due to air quality concerns.

The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) wishes to categorically reject claims circulating about an alleged “sick-out” affecting operations in at its locations in Castries.

The temporary closure of specific Inland Revenue Department offices was solely due to air quality concerns. As a result, deep-cleaning and sanitation exercises were activated, as clearly outlined in the public notice issued on January 26, 2026. These measures were undertaken in the interest of the health and safety of IRD staff and clients. The IRD wishes to clarify that these actions were not the result of any industrial action, labour dispute, or coordinated staff absence.

As stated in our January 26th missive:

  • The first floor of the Heraldine Rock Building is closed until further notice.
  • The third floor of the same building is closed from January 26 to January 30 to facilitate deep cleaning, with normal operations expected to resume on February 2.
  • The third floor of the ECFH Building on Bridge Street is also closed until further notice.

In addressing the speculation, Comptroller of the IRD stated:

“There is absolutely no sick-out or industrial action taking place at the Inland Revenue Department. These temporary closures are strictly related to deep-cleaning activities to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our staff and members of the public. Any suggestion otherwise is inaccurate and misleading.”

Any reports suggesting that these closures are linked to staff unrest or labor-related grievances are unfounded. The IRD continues to deliver services through alternative locations and its online platforms.

The Department urges the public and media practitioners to rely on official IRD communications and to avoid speculation that may cause unnecessary concern.

The Inland Revenue Department regrets any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and thanks the business community and general public for their understanding and cooperation as it undertakes this necessary measure to ensure a safe and healthy environment for its staff and clients.
