Radio St. Lucia is ramping up its Christmas good cheer from Friday, December 11th, when staff and management of the station will donate hampers to the less fortunate in the south of the island.

Christmas Kaleidoscope, RSL97’s flagship Christmas programme, has been spreading the Christmas spirit since November 30th with a number of promotions. These programmes include interactive fun features such as, ‘That’s Hollywood’, ‘Christmas Karaoke’, and ‘Let’s Make A Deal’.

RSL97 also hosted its annual ‘Christmas Barrel Drive’ at Super J La Tourney, Vieux-Fort, on Saturday November 28th. Set up to encourage the general public to make a donation of non-perishable items, the Christmas Barrel Drive’s main goal is to deliver hampers to the less fortunate around the island and to foster a spirit of giving among Saint Lucians at Christmastime.

RSL97’s General Manager, Mr. Mc Claude Emmanuel, says the act of sharing is part of the station’s purpose, and management and staff go out of their way, whenever possible to touch the hearts of people in the island's various communities.

On Friday, December 11th, RSL97 will present food hampers to 16  families in the Vieux Fort area. The recipients were chosen by social agencies as most deserving of assistance.

On Wednesday (December 16th) RSL97 will be treating a group of children from the Fostin’s Home in Soufriere and from Wilton’s Yard (who are being mentored by Ronald ‘Boo’ Hinkson) to a day of fun at the Splash Island Water Park in Rodney Bay. The children will also get a tour of RSL97’s studios on Morne Fortune.

Mr. Emmanuel said these activities were organized simply for the enjoyment of the young children who are less fortunate.

“Every year we strive for improvement in our community outreach,” said Emmanuel. “So next year, you can expect more prize give-aways on air; and expect us to reach more vulnerable people in the communities, in addition to our barrel drive.”

RSL97’s presentation of the non perishable items to needy people takes place Friday at the Ministry of Social Transformation offices in Vieux Fort.
