The Government of Saint Lucia, through the Department of Labour, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs, in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Trade Union Federation and the Saint Lucia Employers’ Federation, has officially commenced a Week of Activities in observance of Labour Day 2026.
The week-long programme, running from April 26 to May 1, brings together workers, employers, and key stakeholders in a series of engagements aimed at celebrating the contributions of the nation’s workforce while advancing critical labour policy discussions.
The observance began on Sunday, April 26, with a Labour Day Lime at the National Cultural Centre, setting the tone for a week of reflection, engagement, and celebration. Minister for Labour, Hon. Emma Hippolyte, in her Labour Day message to the gathering, underscored the central role of workers in national development. “Across every sector—public and private, formal and informal—you are the heartbeat of this nation. Today is about recognising your sacrifice, your dedication, and your daily commitment to keeping Saint Lucia moving forward.”

Minister Hippolyte emphasized that this year’s observance goes beyond celebration, highlighting tangible actions being taken to strengthen labour relations and worker protection.
Among the key initiatives highlighted are the ongoing revision of the Labour Act to address modern workplace realities, the development of a National Occupational Safety and Health Policy, and the establishment of the National Tripartite Advisory Committee to ensure meaningful collaboration between Government, employers, and workers. These measures, the Minister noted, are grounded in principles of fairness, dignity, and inclusion.
“These initiatives are not just policies, they are commitments. Commitments to fairness, to dignity, and to the continued advancement of every worker in Saint Lucia.” As Saint Lucia prepares to join the global community in commemorating Labour Day come May 1, the Government is calling on all citizens to reflect on the value of work and the contributions of workers across every sector. “Today, we celebrate you. We honour you. We thank you.”
