The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela recently handed over the final shipment of laptops to the Government of Saint Lucia, via the Canaima Educational Project.
The project aims to provide students each with a personal computer in order to improve the access of students and their families to Information and Communications Technology.
The first shipment of 1000 laptops arrived on Dec. 20, 2014. The remaining 6000 were handed over on Thursday, Feb 12.
The laptops were delivered to Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony and Education Minister Hon. Dr. Robert Lewis by Venezuelan Ambassador Leiff Escalona; then passed them on to Chief Education Officer Marcus Edward for the hand-over to form three and form four secondary school students island-wide.
Saint Lucia’s Ambassador to ALBA and PetroCaribe Eustace Vitalis was also on hand to witness the handover.
The students will take the computers home, where they will be used to aid their studies and engage in research.
The Canaima Educational Project was extended to Saint Lucia at government's request.
