The donation included kitchen utensils and electrical appliances.
An organization from Morne La Croix in Soufriere, Team Unite, recently made a donation to the Soufriere Hospital.
The donation included grocery items, kitchen utensils, electrical appliances, a refrigerator and a four-burner stove.
According to Charkar Attie Esnard, President of Team Unite, the group began to advocate for better healthcare after a team member died from a stab wound.
"When my brother, Daniel Esnard, died in 2014 we decided to change the name to Team Unite because he had a boat named Unite," he said. "From there we advocated for better healthcare."
The donation was the result of a fundraiser held on Feb. 22 - 23, along with the philanthropic support from a visiting couple - the Rushmores - to the island.
"The hospital needed a number of items and we were not sure where to start. Some suggested that we put the money into a fund and continue to let it grow, but when I met the Rushmores and told them about the organization they decided to purchase the fridge and stove on behalf of Team Unite and that we are very grateful for. As a result, we decided to fully equip the hospital's kitchen, and with the balance of the money $1,270, we look forward to purchasing examination lamps, x-ray viewer boxes and a few other items."
Assistant Principal Nursing Officer attached to the Soufriere Hospital, Benedicta Payne expressed gratitude for the donation.
"We are pleased that you have decided to make the Soufriere Hospital the beneficiary of your organization. We have had some very trying circumstances, but we're hoping with this initiative we can bridge that gap and continue to foster partnerships with the community."
Niké St. Clair, Human Resource Officer in the Ministry of Health said: "We embrace such initiatives because we are faced with financial constraints, and when we receive such items it helps alleviate some of the burdens that we are faced with."
Esnard thanked the many supporters and sponsors for the success of the fund raising event.
The presentation took place at the Soufriere Hospital on April 13.
Team Unite came into existence in 2013, with the aim to create employment for its members. It now also advocates for better healthcare.
