The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Centro Del Agua Del Tropico Humedo Para America Latina y el Caribe (CATHALAC) are offering scholarships to qualified candidates from the Americas to apply for the programme Geographic Information (GIS) for the modeling of Climate Risks and Natural Disaster Management which will run from April 17th, 2017 to July 17th, 2017. The modality of the course is ONLINE and the language of instruction is Spanish.
General objective includes, to:
- provide to professionals, students, researchers and the general public in the transfer of knowledge in the management of the tools (GIS) Environmental modeling to allow you to optimize processes of evaluation of natural resources to minimise the risk of climate change and mitigate the problems associated with natural disasters.
Specific Objectives include, to:
- evaluate the natural processes that involve possible causes of climate-related risks and disasters, with the use of GIS;
- identify and shade areas in climate risk, with the use of GIS;
- spatially represent areas in climate risk and exhibition areas; and
- analyze the climate risk facing various threats, with use of GIS.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for the scholarship, the candidates must:
- be a citizen of Saint Lucia;
- have experience using Geographic Information Systems, work experience in a related environmental field (climatology and civil protection) and experience in the area of research;
- possess a Bachelor’s Degree, (Participant profile: The course is open to students, researchers, technical professionals and decision makers in the public and private sectors);
